A third installment of Dune could see the light of day, director Denis Villeneuve told Empire magazine.

The first installment – which was a resounding success when it was released in 2021 – and the second, Dune: Part Two, whose release, originally scheduled for the fall, was postponed to the spring, are the film adaptation of the novel by the same name of Frank Herbert.

But the story of this universe does not end there: several other volumes have followed, starting with The Messiah of Dune. If this third part sees the light of day, it will be the last, Denis Villeneuve told Empire.

“Then the books become more… esoteric,” he explains.
