The film Bungalow, by Lawrence Côté-Collins, has earned a place in the official competition of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, while Testament, by Denys Arcand, will be presented in the Previews section.
On Thursday, the team of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival announced the additional films that will be included in the programming of its 16th edition, from August 22 to 27 in Charente, in the south-west of France. Bungalow is thus selected in the official feature film competition, alongside Le Plongeur, by Francis Leclerc, whose selection was announced on July 7. The list also includes eight French films and one Belgian film.
Second feature film by Lawrence Côté-Collins, co-written by Alexandre Auger, Bungalow tells the story of a couple who undertakes renovations to a suburban house. The film – a satire of the consumer society – stars Sonia Cordeau and Guillaume Cyr.
Testament, for its part, will be presented in the Previews section of the Festival, which already includes the film Simple comme Sylvain, by Monia Chokri. This will be an international premiere for the new feature film by Denys Arcand, which will be released in Quebec cinemas on October 5.
The two general delegates of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, Marie-France Brière and Dominique Besnehard, described Testament as “a real x-ray of our current world with its drifts, its incommunicability and its cynicism treated by the humor and immense talent of Denys Arcand”. Rémy Girard embodies the role of Jean-Michel, a 70-year-old bachelor who has lost his bearings in a society in the throes of identity change. The film features a host of Quebec stars, including Sophie Lorain, Marie-Mai and Guylaine Tremblay.
The documentary L’Osstidquoi? The Osstidcho! is one of the Festival’s favourites. The animated film Éviction, by Alexandre Paquet, was selected in the official short film competition.
Chaired by actress and producer Laetitia Casta, the 2023 jury of the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival includes among its members Quebec actress and director Monia Chokri.
