Gareth Edwards’ latest feature film? Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in 2016, two years after Godzilla.
Following these two excellent blockbusters, the British director was to work on smaller projects. The trailer for The Creator, released on Monday, indicates just the opposite, as humanity struggles for survival against an artificial intelligence it created to protect it.
John David Washington (Tenet, BlacKkKlansman) plays Joshua, a former special forces soldier, who mourns his wife Maya, played by Gemma Chan (Eternals, Let Them All Talk). He is recruited to eliminate the Creator, who has developed the ultimate weapon, a robot that has the appearance of a child played by Madeleine Yuna Voyles in her first role.
Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz, who collaborated on Rogue One, are writing the script for the film, which is due to be released on September 20.
