American actor Robert Downey Jr. is expected to star in a revival of Vertigo, by Alfred Hitchcock, released in 1958.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Downey Jr. will put aside his Iron Man costume to play the character of John Ferguson in Alfred Hitchcock’s cult film. A project led by Paramount, which had also produced the original film with Hitchcock.
It’s not yet clear who will direct the film, but Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly co-producing the feature scripted by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders). The American screenwriter was also recently hired to write the screenplay for the new installment of the Star Wars franchise.
Vertigo (Cold Sweats in French), which was restored a few years ago to mark 60 years since the film’s release, starred James Stewart and Kim Novak. Despite disappointing box office receipts when it was released, Hitchcock’s film has long held pride of place among the best films of all time, according to the Sight and Sound website.
