He breaks up! The most successful footballer of all time is retiring – this time for good! Tom Brady announced this in a video message on his social networks.
The quarterback played in the NFL for 23 years and became the best player of all time with a total of seven titles. This earned him the nickname “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time). He would not want to change “anything” about his career, he explains and thanks all his companions.
The 45-year-old announced his retirement after last season before changing his mind 40 days later and returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for another season.
With the team, he played the very first NFL game on German soil in November, in Munich’s Allianz Arena against the Seattle Seahawks. Another milestone in his great career – and one of his last.
“I know it was a pretty big deal last time,” Brady said. Apparently he doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it this time. He had found a place on the beach for his video message, and there was a strong wind in the background. No big show, no drama – just Brady and the already touchingly embarrassing sound quality.
In addition to the seven titles, Brady set a number of records. He is the all-time passing leader with 89,214 yards, no more touchdown passes (649). He was named the league’s MVP three times.
His last game was the Wild Card Round playoff duel against the Dallas Cowboys. The Bucs were eliminated 14:31 and Brady had a night to forget. Immediately after the game, he left his future open. Rumors of a move to the Las Vegas Raiders grew. Now everything is different.
At the end he thanked him for being able to live his absolute dream. Then his voice faltered.
