In 2022, “People Today” could still look forward to its anniversary. The magazine had already been flickering across German screens on ZDF for 25 years. But that should now be over, as the broadcaster announced. According to information from “Bild am Sonntag”, the employees only found out about the end of the show last week.
“People Today” will be on view until the end of September at the latest, but that’s the end of it. And there are already plans for what to do with the free airtime. The program “Hallo Deutschland”, which was always shown before “Leute heute”, will be stretched and thematically expanded to include celebrity news. The format, which was initially moderated by Nina Ruge (66) and most recently by Karen Webb (51), was actually able to show solid numbers. More than two million people tuned in again and again. But why is it suddenly over?
The reason lies in ZDF’s planning strategy, because in the future more budget will be spent on productions that are aimed at a younger audience and will be found primarily in the media library. For the same reason, the hit show “SOKO Hamburg” was previously cut. ZDF told dpa: “This step is part of the strategy process ‘One ZDF for everyone’, whereby the broadcaster wants to reach more younger target groups and people in the future who have hardly seen any ZDF content up to now.”
The I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here show is the perfect opportunity for many celebs to top up their bankroll a little. However, it has now been revealed that they themselves – if things go badly – have to dig deep into their pockets.
