Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) wants to counteract the shortage of skilled workers by significantly expanding the training of teachers and educators.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has called for a significant increase in capacity for the training of teachers and educators. “The profession of educator must become more attractive so that more young people take up this profession – and remain loyal to it in the long term,” said Scholz of the “Bild am Sonntag”. “The same applies to teachers, where there is also a major shortage. This also means that the universities have to expand their capacities quickly.”
In general, six million additional workers will be needed on the German labor market by 2030, Scholz continued. The government is planning a whole bundle of measures for this. “We need more attractive working conditions for parents with small children so that we can increase the number of employed mothers and fathers,” says Scholz. “We need to organize more support for the transition from school to training. And anyone who loses their job in their mid-50s gets the chance to find a similarly well-paid job through qualification.”
In addition, more skilled workers from non-European countries are needed, Scholz continued. “We are creating the most modern immigration law for this purpose. We will pass the necessary laws before the end of this year.” All in all, the Federal Chancellor was optimistic about the future of the labor market in Germany. “I am confident that the number of people in employment in Germany will increase and so will the growth rates of our economy.”
