Biathlete Sophia Schneider is hoping for success in her second relay of the season at the home World Cup in Ruhpolding. “Of course it would be great to finish on the podium. That’s always the goal together with the team,” said Schneider, who started the 4 x 6 kilometers in a quartet with Anna Weidel, Vanessa Voigt and Denise Herrmann-Wick.
At the start of the World Cup in Kontiolahti, Schneider and his three teammates secured second place behind the victorious Swedes. “That was really super cool and my first World Cup podium. We will definitely tackle that,” said the 25-year-old, who needed a spare in both shooting bouts in the race in Finland as the second skier.
The home scenery in the Chiemgau Arena is both a drive and a challenge for the Traunstein native. “A home World Cup is something special. You always have to look to stay true to yourself and really work through your things and not allow yourself to be influenced too much from outside,” said the biathlete.
In front of the home crowd, Schneider will start third and then take on the Swede Hanna Öberg and the Norwegian overall World Cup winner Marte Olsbu Röiseland. Her plan for the competition is clear: “Take in the mood, let myself drift away and still keep my focus and just do biathlon.”
