The President of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, calls on consumers to report suspected rip-offs against the background of the introduced price caps for electricity and gas. “If there are such examples: please let me know,” said Müller in an interview with RTL / ntv.
Most recently there had been fears that price increases could take place simply because the state bears the costs for prices above the price cap. In the conversation, Müller defended his initially harsh warnings that the current winter could be uncomfortable for many energy consumers. Nevertheless, he did not rule out that the recent all-clear could undermine the calls for austerity measures that are still necessary: ”That is indeed a sore point,” said Müller.
Consumers and businesses should show solidarity. “Because every gas you save now avoids problems for the industry – for example next winter.” Despite the recent relaxation in energy prices, the President of the Network Agency expects the costs to remain high. “The old price level when we got Russian pipeline gas, no one expects that any more for the foreseeable future. And in this respect we will have to become more efficient overall.”
