2023 is here – and brings with it a price increase for health insurance. This is the result of the Stiftung Warentest. Accordingly, 54 out of 71 health insurance companies have increased their contributions.
According to an evaluation by Stiftung Warentest, health insurance has become more expensive for many people at the turn of the year. The foundation announced on Monday that 54 of the 71 cash registers open to all had increased their contribution rates. According to the Central Association of Health Insurance Funds, there are a total of 96 statutory health insurance funds in Germany, but not all of them are open to everyone, such as certain company health insurance funds.
The increase in the 54 cash registers was between 0.06 and 0.7 percentage points. Two health insurance companies reduced their contributions at the turn of the year, 15 kept their contributions stable. The highest contribution rate at the beginning of the year was 16.59 percent, the cheapest 15.4 percent. The foundation advised insured persons to pay particular attention, since the health insurance funds – unlike before – are no longer obliged to notify the increase by letter. However, they would have to inform about changes on their website or in the members’ magazine.
