According to this, the minister was on her way to Munich around 10 a.m. on Monday morning when the accident happened, she wanted to attend a nutrition conference in Munich. Kaniber sat in the back seat of her BMW company car. It was driven by the ministry’s official driver.
According to the police, a 22-year-old Austrian woman on the district road from Neukirchen in the direction of Siegsdorf (Traunstein district) shortly before the Rettenbach district came to the left into the oncoming lane for an unknown reason. An oncoming 58-year-old woman from Siegsdorf was able to avoid the woman’s car, but lost control of her vehicle, skidded and collided with the limousine in which Kaniber was sitting.
The 58-year-old had to be flown to a hospital in a rescue helicopter and, according to the police, suffered serious injuries. Kaniber and her driver were taken to nearby clinics. The Austrian was unharmed.
Police and rescue workers were on site with a large contingent. The public prosecutor’s office in Traunstein ordered an accident report.
The district road remained closed for several hours, the Suzuki and the BMW were towed away.
