Because the traffic light does not want to invite the Federal Court of Auditors: Union faction writes a letter to Bundestag President Bärbel Bas.

The Union faction in the Bundestag wrote an outraged letter to Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD) in order to persuade the traffic light coalition to allow the Federal Audit Office as an expert for the citizens’ benefit hearing. In the letter, which is available to “BILD am SONNTAG”, the First Parliamentary Secretary Thorsten Frei (CDU) reminds that the Federal Court of Auditors has already been invited to hearings on the construction of rented apartments, on the return of the solidarity surcharge and on basic security for job seekers.

Frei continues: “The impression is created that the coalition wants to silence the Federal Court of Auditors after its justified criticism of the citizen benefit plans and also of the 200 billion package in Parliament.” It is a sign of strength to allow criticism.

Martin Rosemann, spokesman for labor and social affairs of the SPD parliamentary group, refers to the rules of procedure of the Bundestag. According to this, the highest federal authorities should only be invited to hearings in particularly justified exceptional cases. “Neither the AfD, which initially wanted to invite the Federal Court of Auditors as the only parliamentary group, nor the Union, which then jumped on this request, have given any reason as to why such an exceptional case exists.”

Now the Rules of Procedure Committee has to find an answer to the expert dispute. The Union is urging to hurry in order to be able to invite the Federal Court of Auditors in good time. The hearing on citizens’ income is scheduled to take place on November 7th.
