After there was increased chaos during the delivery of the letters, the left-wing parliamentary group leader Bartsch wants to nationalize the Deutsche Post or at least the federal government should become the majority owner.

In view of the late delivery of letters and a new wave of complaints about Deutsche Post, Dietmar Bartsch, leader of the Left Party, is calling for the Bonn-based group to be renationalized. “We should discuss renationalization. Deutsche Post belongs in public hands,” Bartsch told the editorial network Germany (RND). The federal government should at least become the majority owner of the Post again in order to be able to determine the course of the company.

“Corporate profits and customer service are growing ever wider apart. For years, some things have gotten worse and many things more expensive at the post office, while profits are exploding at the same time,” said the left-wing politician. “Delayed deliveries, fewer branches, less proximity to the public, expensive postage: it is questionable whether Swiss Post still meets the legal requirements for postal services across the board,” he said. The federal government should remind CEO Frank Appel “strongly to comply with the legal obligations of the postal service”.
