Elon Musk is apparently really cleaning up on Twitter. According to one report, he wants to lay off three quarters of the workforce at the short message service Twitter. The number of employees is to drop from 7,500 to around 200
According to a report, US billionaire Elon Musk wants to lay off almost three quarters of the online network’s workforce after taking over Twitter. As the Washington Post reported on Thursday, Musk announced to potential investors that he would reduce the number of employees from 7,500 to around 2,000.
Twitter itself is also planning to create jobs: Even if the takeover by Musk should still burst, Twitter wants to lay off almost a quarter of the workforce by the end of 2023 in order to save around $800 million in personnel costs, wrote the Washington Post. At the request of the AFP news agency, Twitter initially did not comment on this.
Musk announced a $44 billion takeover of Twitter in April. In July, however, the Tesla founder dropped the deal because of allegedly “false and misleading” information from the online service: Twitter gave the number of its actual users too high and the number of spam or fake accounts too low.
The company rejected the allegations and went to court to force the multi-billionaire to complete the acquisition. Musk then announced in early October that he wanted to buy Twitter as originally planned. The judge responsible then postponed the trial planned for mid-October and called on the parties to the dispute to come to an agreement by Friday next week.
