The Ukrainian army continues to advance successfully in its counter-offensive. The bad news for Russia’s troops is piling up. Because Putin’s fighters are caught in fire in many regions. An overview of the latest developments.
A statement like a cannon blast in the face of Vladimir Putin: Vladimir Saldo, the governor installed by Russia in the occupied parts of Cherson, said on Russian state television that the Ukrainians had made the “biggest breakthrough on the southern front since the beginning of the war”.
“The information situation is tense, let’s put it that way, because there have indeed been breakthroughs,” says Saldo. This applies, among other things, to the village of Dudchany on the Dnipro River, which was recaptured by the Ukrainians.
With the reconquests, Ukraine is not only taking back territory. They also cut off the Russians from important supply lines. And they produce new bad news for Vladimir Putin after the defeats in the Kharkiv region around four weeks ago and the hasty withdrawal of Russian troops from the strategically important city of Lyman this weekend.
Overall, the Ukrainian army is currently making conquests in the Cherson region again and again. Russian sources reported Ukrainian armored forces advancing south along the Dnipro River. The associations have covered dozens of kilometers, it is said. Among other things, the municipalities of Arkhanhelske and Myroliubivka were taken on Sunday. Also Osokorivka, Mykhailivka, Khreschenivka and Zolota Balka are said to have been liberated.
And it’s not just in the south that things are looking bad for Putin’s troops. After recapturing Lyman, Ukrainian fighters are now moving west, targeting Swatowe in the Luhansk region, which is also strategically highly relevant. Swatowe is considered a hub that also plays a major logistical role. It is the connection to Kharkiv to the west. A road leads to the south in the direction of Sievjerodonetsk and Lysychansk. And in the southwest lies the recently recaptured Lyman, the gateway to the Donetsk region.
Speaking of Lysychansk. Months ago, the Ukrainian soldiers had to flee here after being defeated in weeks of trench warfare. Now a military spokesman for the Moscow-controlled Luhansk separatists writes that Ukrainian soldiers have already established themselves near the city of Lysychansk. The Ukrainian units are under constant fire from the Russian army.
In the Kharkiv region, too, the Ukrainian troops have apparently added the next piece of the puzzle. The Borova local council announced that the liberation had been successful. Borova (red flag in the picture below) is located east of the Oskil River near the borders with the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
For weeks, Russian troops have been trying to advance in the Donetsk region. Nothing has moved for weeks. A battle is raging around the town of Bakhmut in particular, with the front line barely moving.
There is always only one thing from the region: news that Russian attacks have been successfully repelled. Recently, among others, from the villages of Majorsk, Zaitsev, Nevelske and Pobeda.
