Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil wants to counteract the shortage of skilled workers with a new law.
Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD) considers qualified immigration from abroad to be essential for securing long-term economic growth in Germany. Germany will “have to pull out all the stops to secure skilled workers,” the SPD politician told the newspapers of the Funke media group. This affects both training, further education and the participation of women in the labor market as well as the “necessary qualified immigration”. Heil intends to present a corresponding concept this autumn.
In addition to strategies for recruiting skilled workers, further training and basic income, the minister also referred to the cornerstones of a “modern immigration law”.
From his point of view, the question of securing skilled workers remains “the question of prosperity for our country”. Even if all the stops have been pulled out domestically, Germany needs “qualified immigration from abroad” in order to prevent the shortage of skilled workers “from becoming a permanent brake on growth”, said Heil.
