It was a rumor for a long time, now there is confirmation. The Russian Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova admitted that children were brought to Russia from Ukraine. When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, it surrounded the port city of Mariupol in the south of the country, the city was bombed and children were taken away from there. The children were abandoned by their parents and rescued from basements in Mariupol, according to the Russian account.
In a statement to the Moscow Times, Lvova-Belova said: “When we took them to the Moscow region to be nursed back, at first they were very negative towards the President and said nasty things. They sang the Ukrainian anthem and stuff like that… But later that negative behavior turned into love for Russia.”
Ukraine accuses Russia of kidnapping children from Ukraine, who are then to be put up for adoption in Russia. Kyiv describes the forced resettlement of children as a war crime.
