A report submitted by Poland estimates the damage caused by Nazi Germany during World War II to the equivalent of more than 1.3 trillion euros.
This was announced by the chairman of the national conservative governing party PiS, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, on Thursday in Warsaw. Warsaw wants to negotiate with Berlin about compensation in this estimated volume, he said.
However, until Poland receives reparations, it will have to go through a “long and difficult” process. The federal government rejects all demands for reparations. For them, the question is closed with the 2 4 treaty on the foreign policy aspects of German unity.
The expert opinion of a parliamentary commission convened in 2017, which had been kept secret for a long time, was presented in the royal palace. “Today in Warsaw’s Royal Castle the decision will be taken and the final announcement will be made that Poland will seek war reparations for everything that the Germans did in Poland in 1939-1945,” Kaczynski said.
