Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) has harshly criticized his Bavarian counterpart Markus Söder (CSU) for his claim that the traffic light would deliberately disadvantage southern Germany.
“The finding that the north is preferred and the south is disadvantaged is simply wrong,” said Günther of “Bild am Sonntag”.
He understands that Söder is in a difficult situation, says Günther. At the same time, he criticized the attitude of his counterpart: “He also sees that we in the north are significantly less dependent on Russian gas because we started expanding renewable energies early on. It’s of little use now just to point the finger at Berlin. We all have to take responsibility, and the Bavarian Prime Minister knows that too.”
At the same time, Günther specified his widely discussed proposal to switch off saunas in hotels. There is a fundamental difference between whether a wellness hotel on the North Sea or a business hotel in Kiel turns off the sauna. “If a company makes a living from its spa area, it must of course be allowed to continue operating its saunas this winter. The hoteliers are smart enough to decide for themselves. My firm prognosis is: It will work without regulations,” says Günther.
In addition, Günther campaigned for a black-green coalition as a perspective for the federal government. “The issues that are currently dominant call for coalitions that represent a broad spectrum of society,” said Günther. “CDU and Greens not only complement each other well, but also have the potential to minimize social conflicts, for example in the area of climate protection. This is certainly a role model for other states and the federal government.”
