Jürgen Drews announced the end of his career a few days ago. Daughter Joelina is now speaking to Bild.de for the first time about her father’s decision, what impresses her about him and how she now wants to build on his success.

The fact that Jürgen Drews would end his career came as a surprise not only to his fans, but also to daughter Joelina, as she now tells Bild.de: “I only found out from my mom the day before Dad’s appearance at Florian Silbereisen that he will announce the end of his career on the show. I couldn’t believe it at first and I still have to get used to this thought.”

Nevertheless, the 27-year-old is understanding: “On the one hand I’m sad, but on the other hand he’s 77 years old and just wants to enjoy his life. Others have often long since retired at this age and have withdrawn. I understand his decision and he really deserves it after such a long career.” But Joelina noticed her father’s physical limitations some time ago: “Of course I also notice that my dad has slowed down, which is due to his age and due to his illness. On a recent bike ride with my mum and him, he was suddenly ten meters behind us after a short time. He used to drive in advance.” She goes on to explain: “He’s a lot older than other fathers in my area. Dad should now just think about himself and his health.”

Now she wants to continue her father’s musical legacy, albeit in a different genre: “I know I’ve got big shoes to fill now that he’s retiring from the stage. But that is also an incentive for me. Of course, my music is very different, but his professionalism as a singer and showman has always impressed me and inspired me as a person.” Jürgen Drews himself is not always entirely convinced: “I’ve already played my new song to him. He gave the song ten out of ten points. Of course I’m very happy when he likes my music, because that’s not always the case. But that’s perfectly okay, because at the end of the day I’m an artist in my own right and I make the music that I feel and that authentically suits me.”
