The 81-year-old is said not to have said a bad word about her granddaughter, and she also entrusted her with the EC card at times. But she uses the savings of the elderly woman. When this threatens to be exposed, the 32-year-old becomes a murderer.
According to forensic medicine, the elderly woman’s agony lasted several minutes, and she was murdered by her own granddaughter in a nursing home in Zwickau. Ten months later, the district court delivered its verdict on Friday. It’s murder.
“We have a very drastic approach here,” stated judge Klaus Hartmann. The 32-year-old not only insidiously surprised her grandmother while she was sleeping. She wanted to cover up the fact that she had siphoned off several thousand euros from grandma’s savings without her knowledge. The elderly woman had become suspicious, had her debit card returned and wanted to check the bank statements.
On September 12, 2021, the 32-year-old came to work particularly early. She was a nurse at the home where her grandmother was in respite care after a hospital stay. At half past five she went to her room. She later told investigators that there had been a dispute as to what would happen to her grandmother after she was released. Then she blacked out and choked her.
But that is not plausible, stressed Hartmann. Rather, she had a firm intention to kill and took advantage of the fact that her grandmother was still asleep. First she pressed a pillow on her face and later choked her. When the elderly lady struggled and fell out of bed, the granddaughter knelt on her chest and covered her mouth – experts speak of “Burking”. After the fact, she did not start her shift at the home, but took the tram to the police to report herself.
A forensic doctor had spoken in court on Friday of numerous external injuries on the body of the dead. She died from violence against the neck, chest and breathing openings, the expert summed up. According to a forensic scientist, the act did not happen in an emotional state. He also found no personality disorder in the single mother. However, she was addicted to online gambling and accumulated debts.
With its verdict, the court followed the request of the public prosecutor. The accessory prosecutor had also demanded that the particular severity of the guilt be determined. That would have made it difficult for the woman to get out of prison after only 15 years. But the judges didn’t agree. The defense doubted that the elderly woman was caught in a helpless position that morning. On the other hand speak, for example, that the granddaughter had covered her mouth, explained lawyer Lars Riedel. He spoke out in his plea for a prison sentence of seven years. After the verdict, he announced that he would appeal.
Attitudes towards work also change over the generations. And that much to the chagrin of Europapark boss Roland Mack, who is currently desperately looking for workers for his amusement park. He simply cannot understand the work ethic of the younger generation, which is geared towards balance and low stress.
Germany reacted to the Fukushima disaster in 2011 with the planned nuclear phase-out. But it costs billions, and the problem of final disposal remains unsolved while neighboring countries continue to use nuclear energy. In France, as shown by a comprehensive ARD documentary, the German exit is considered “ridiculous”.
According to the think tank Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air, the EU is still the main recipient of Russian oil exports. Accordingly, the EU receives 51 percent, China 25 percent and India four percent of Russian oil. Still, since the war of aggression in Ukraine began, Russia would export fewer fossil fuels than before.
