Rabbi Matondo is considered one of the biggest transfer flops from FC Schalke 04. Now the Bundesliga club has finally found a new club for the striker in Glasgow Rangers.
From Gelsenkirchen to Glasgow: Rabbi Matondo’s (21) move from FC Schalke 04 to Glasgow Rangers is perfect, as “Sport1” reports. The Bundesliga club is ending the cooperation with one of its biggest transfer misunderstandings in recent years. The striker cost the club around 19 million euros in just three and a half years, including salary payments, consultant fees and other expenses.
Rangers contract until 2026: Matondo has received a four-year contract with Rangers, while Schalke will give him a transfer fee of around three million euros. The Welsh offensive man was signed in 2019 for a fee of ten million euros from the second team of Manchester City. The 21-year-old’s contract with the Royal Blues does not end until 2023.
“Economically” unplannable: Schalke sports director Rouven Schröder explains the change by saying that Matondo, despite his good last season on loan at Cercle Brugge, “could not be planned for the new season from an economic point of view”. This was openly communicated. However, Matondo himself is looking forward to the new challenge. So the Rangers are “a great club with an incredible history”.
