Scholz prepares citizens for a long-lasting inflationary crisis. Regarding high inflation and the tense German economy, he said the situation would “not change in the foreseeable future”.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has committed the citizens to a long-lasting crisis that needs to be tackled together. “The current crisis will not be over in a few months,” he said on Monday after the opening talks on the concerted action in the Chancellery, with a view to high inflation and the tense German economy. This situation will “not change in the foreseeable future”.
Scholz went on to say that the country was facing “historic challenges”, so cooperation between social partners, politicians and scientists was essential. “As a country, we will only get through this crisis well if we join hands, if we agree on solutions together,” said the Chancellor after talks between members of the government, trade unions, employer representatives, the Bundesbank and science. The start was “promising”.
At the start of the concerted action, the aim was to “develop a common understanding of the situation” in which the country finds itself, the Chancellor said. In the coming weeks it will then be a question of “developing instruments and finding ways of how we will react to these historic challenges”. Therefore, regular meetings are now planned.
