The head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Bill Nelson, in an interview with the Bild newspaper, expressed fears that China could land on the Moon and declare it its territory.
“We have to worry very much about China landing on the moon and saying, ‘This belongs to us, and you stay away,'” he told TASS.
According to Nelson, “China’s space program is a military space program. There is a new race to explore the universe, this time with China,” said the head of NASA.
“Well, what do you think will happen on the Chinese space station? They will learn there how to destroy satellites belonging to others,” Nelson believes.
In January 2004, the State Council of the People’s Republic of China approved a national program for lunar exploration.
