The heaviest storms now seem to be moving further east. It all looks like we’re going to get off lightly. The thunderstorms on Friday will only be severe in a small part of Germany.

A few thunderstorms are possible on Friday night. And so it’s not just rain on Friday morning. Lightning can also be there again on a wide strip from Hamburg to Munich. But these thunderstorms will not bring severe weather in the morning. The rain can be heavy and there can be lightning, but overall the situation on Friday morning is manageable with an umbrella. But that changes by the early afternoon.

Already in the morning, around 10 a.m., the thunderstorms are moving in a line from Rostock and Berlin to Dresden. Heavy rain or small-grain hail may also occur around noon. However, the time of day plays into our cards.

Severe storms usually only occur in the late afternoon. And with that you can give the all-clear for most regions. Although there will be heavy rain, the very severe storms will have their main focus in Poland. Only in one region in Germany do you have to be careful in the afternoon.

The thunderstorms will intensify in the afternoon. There may still be a severe thunderstorm situation east of Berlin. However, the danger only lasts around two hours, because the storms are quickly moving to Poland and the Baltic Sea. Nevertheless, one should be careful on Friday afternoon in Rostock, Stralsund, Greifwald, Schwedt, Frankfurt (Oder), Cottbus and Görlitz. Storms can still occur there.

The tornado danger in Germany is low. In Poland, on the other hand, where the thunderstorms also meet hot air in the afternoon, tornadoes can occur just across the border.

There is still a little uncertainty in the very north-east. In Western Pomerania it could be that the thunderstorms will only leave after 4 p.m. This is where the greatest risk of severe weather prevails on Friday.

Overall, the heat wave for Germany passed relatively lightly. But there is one more hint: Due to the partially parched soil, the water can flow together quickly, especially during heavy rain. This means that you should be careful with underpasses or depressions, because a lot of water could quickly accumulate.

From Saturday the weather will be summery again, although not quite as hot as in the past few days.
