Now it’s time to go on vacation: With two goals against Italy, Timo Werner regained some self-confidence. The DFB kickers in the individual review after the 5: 2 against Italy in Mönchengladbach:
MANUEL NEUER – NOTE 1: First world-class parade in the eighth minute, from a short distance against Raspadori, which Süle had escaped. Second unbelievable feat shortly after the break, which was unnecessary because the whistle had already been whistled offside. No chance when conceding goals.
LUKAS KLOSTERMANN – NOTE 3: Extremely inconspicuous game of the Leipzig Thilo Kehrer replacement, who did not appear great either offensively or defensively.
ANTONIO RÜDIGER – RATING 3: Little or no demand at all in the back, not really in demand in the front given the general hustle and bustle. Saw yellow after a discussion with the referee (59th).
NIKLAS SÜLE – RATING 3: Forced his keeper to dribble with a careless back pass (29th), headed a cross ball into the middle instead of to the side (46th), which was not without risk.
DAVID RAUM – NOTE 2: Again a few assists for the defensively hardly required flank god from Hoffenheim: Two of his crosses found the scorers Kimmich and Müller.
ILKAY GÜNDOGAN – NOTE 2: 15th goal in the 60th international match: ManCity’s championship winner hit the penalty spot just before the half-time whistle, cheeky in the middle.
JOSHUA KIMMICH – NOTE 2: Moults to scorer on duty against Italy. Made it 1-0 in the tenth minute: cross from space, acceptance with the strong right, finish with the weaker left. You only have that freedom against an Italian defense if Christmas and Easter coincide.
LEROY SANE – NOTE 2: Started like the fire brigade: low shot from 18 meters – just wide (7th). An even better chance later after a fine Müller pass, but he aimed too centrally at the goal (39th). But he also worked diligently against the ball, sometimes in his own penalty area. Had the 4:0 on the foot, but was offside (57th).
THOMAS MÜLLER – NOTE 2: Immediately awake, the veteran: After a few seconds, Timo Werner sent towards 1: 0, but he frittered away. He also had his feet in the game in preparation for Sané’s big chance. Then in the second half a real Knorzel-Müller: 43rd international goal with a shot that was anything but school-like to make it 3-0 (51st).
JONAS HOFMANN – NOTE 2: Was allowed to play from the start at his home game in Gladbach. Almost scored a goal from the right half in the 33 minute but was denied by Donnarumma from a tight angle. Got the penalty just before the break, which Gündogan sunk coolly right in the middle of the goal (45′).
TIMO WERNER – NOTE 3: After just 19 seconds with a typical Werner move: smartly released by colleague Müller, but miserably stumbled – not a good start for the goalscorer-to-be who hasn’t exactly been bursting with self-confidence for years. It followed: bad passes, failed dribbles and a Donnarumma parade (40th) – quite an anti-run that the 2021 Champions League winner has there. Balm then in minutes 68 and 69: double pack!
SERGE GNABRY – NOTE 2: Came for Hofmann after an hour and immediately prepared Werner’s redeeming goal to make it 4-0.
JAMAL MUSIALA, LUKAS NMECHA, JONATHAN TAH AND ANTON STACH: Arrived too late for an assessment.

Negotiations between FC Liverpool and Bayern Munich are tough, and yet there is little doubt that both parties will soon agree on moving winger Sadio Mané (30) to the Isar. Now Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is also getting involved.
The war in Ukraine turned Nikita Mazepin’s career upside down. Despite his sacking from Haas, the Russian hopes to return to Formula 1. Mazepin has no kind words for Mick Schumacher, who is in a low form.
Marco Rose could get a new job after his dismissal at Borussia Dortmund almost a month ago. Turkey is said to be interested. He would not be the first German coach in the Süper Lig.
