Bayern Munich’s DFB Cup match against Viktoria Köln will not take place at the Höhenberg sports park. The new venue has already been decided. The game will be broadcast live on Free TV.
Same city, different stadium: On August 31, Viktoria Köln will meet FC Bayern Munich in the first round of the DFB Cup – in the Rhein-Energie Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000 spectators. The club announces this on its website. Accordingly, the actual home of the people of Cologne, the Höhenberg sports park (10,000 seats), would not offer enough space for the spectators.
Short, compact, clear
The game will be broadcast on free TV: The reason for the transfer should also be that the game is to be broadcast by ARD and Sky. “A free TV game on ARD would simply overwhelm the infrastructure in the Höhenberg sports park,” says Viktoria’s managing director, Axel Freisewinkel.
Dream lot for the third division club: According to Viktoria, the game against the German record champions is “much more than just a ‘game of the year'”. It’s been a long time since the last meeting. The two clubs last played against each other in September 1979. Back then, Bayern won 3-1.
