Penal order against a dog owner from Calw. The woman is said to have kept 26 dogs in just 18 transport boxes in a vehicle. Twelve dogs died. The public prosecutor speaks of “considerable suffering”.
After the death of twelve huskies in the Baden-Württemberg district of Calw, the Tübingen public prosecutor’s office applied for a penalty order for a fine of 150 daily rates against the keeper. The District Court of Calw issued and served the penalty order, the public prosecutor announced on Wednesday. Twelve of the woman’s 26 dogs died last July.
The public prosecutor accuses the owner of violating the Animal Welfare Act. The woman is said to have kept the 26 dogs in just 18 transport boxes in a vehicle. They did not get enough water and fresh air and were “exposed to considerable suffering” for many hours.
Experts could not clearly clarify the cause of death, but the public prosecutor’s office assumes death from suffocation and overheating. The owner knew that dogs – except when driving – should not be kept in transport boxes. A penal order may sometimes be issued in lieu of a judgment.
