In 2005, the then eight-year-old Shasta Groene’s carefree childhood ended tragically. Now she talks about the loss of her family and her kidnapping.

May 15, 2005 will forever be remembered by 25-year-old Shasta Groene of Wolf Lodge, Idaho, USA. At that time, the serial killer Joseph Duncan III invaded her parents’ house. He kidnapped her and her then nine-year-old brother Dylan and killed her mother Brenda († 40), her stepfather Mark McKenzie († 37) and her brother Slade Groene, who was just 13 years old.

In the program “People Magazine Investigates”, from which “dailymail.co.uk” reports, Shasta Groene has now spoken about her tale of woe and also described how she was able to avoid the fate of her brother Dylan, who was shot by Joseph Duncan III.

Shasta Groene was held by her kidnapper for almost two months. During this time there were repeated violent attacks. What was particularly traumatizing was that Joseph Duncan III shot her brother dead in front of her. But perhaps this terrible experience saved her life.

One day the situation escalated again and Shasta Groene’s kidnapper gave her the choice of how she wanted to die. “I felt like something was guiding me, like a voice in my head telling me what I needed to do and how it would work,” Shasta Groene recalls of the desperate situation. Not wanting to suffer the same death as her brother, she asked her captor to strangle her. When she was almost unconscious, she said to the cruel killer, “Please don’t, Jet.” The mention of his nickname apparently triggered something in the psychopath. He let go of his victim. “At that point I knew I had gained a lot of confidence in him. I was going to do just about anything to survive,” Shasta Groene said.

Over time, the kidnapper apparently gained so much confidence in his hostage that on July 2, 2005 he went to a restaurant with her. There, a guest recognized the girl, who, of course, was being looked for everywhere. The man called the police, who arrested Joseph Duncan III and freed the girl.

But the traumatic experience doesn’t let Shasta go. She developed an eating disorder and self-injured, she reported. She also started drinking and using marijuana at the age of 13. “I tried to numb everything,” she recalls. Her killer has since died in custody.

After weeks of a war of roses and fierce allegations in court, a verdict has now been reached in the Depp-Heard trial. Amber Heard comes out of the case a loser. The fact that the actor is visibly relieved about the verdict is also shown during an autograph session.

In an interview shortly after his birthday, actor Morgan Freeman speaks about racism in Hollywood. The 85-year-old reports that he only got some roles because of his skin color. In another case he even lost a role because of that.

His nickname: the beauty pope. He is Germany’s most famous cosmetic surgeon. Werner Mang reports in his new Bunte.de column “The Price of Beauty” about his experiences in the celebrity world.
