Doreen Dietel was diagnosed with black skin cancer. She has not told her eight-year-old son about her illness to protect him.
Doreen Dietel is going through a particularly difficult time right now. The actress was recently diagnosed with black skin cancer following a skin screening. Since then, she has had to undergo several minor surgeries to remove the tumors. Luckily, the cancer didn’t spread. So Doreen is spared radiation. While the former ‘Dahoam is Dahoam’ actress keeps her fans up to date with the occasional health update, there is one important person in her life who is yet to know about the condition: her son Marlow, 8. Doreen has so far kept her horror diagnosis secret from him.
In the RTL interview, she now revealed how she had previously explained her small surgeries to the eight-year-old: “I said that I had to have a tick cut out.” She apparently wants to protect her little one from the truth. “He’s worried about his mommy anyway, because I was always out shooting pretty early and because I work a lot,” she says. Since her diagnosis, however, she has resolved to change a few things in her life, such as taking better care of herself. But this also means that Doreen would like to take even more time for her son in the future. “Don’t always just work, work, but also take the time,” is her resolution – and the TV star implements it right away. Together with Marlow, she is now taking a little break: “I’ll be away with Marlow for a week, go on the ship.”
Doreen also has an important appeal to her fans: “Get out of the sun”. She thinks she knows how she got cancer. “Of course it’s silly what I’ve done with my body. That’s why I don’t have any reason to complain, because it’s my own fault. I used the solarium flat rate as a young girl,” she explains. The 47-year-old is not only angry about her own behavior, but also about her health insurance company, which apparently did not want to pay for her skin screening: “That’s a high bill that I got there. I then sent it to the health insurance company and they refused to pay even a cent. A lot of people don’t do that. They don’t do this screening, which is very important. Otherwise I wouldn’t have recognized him.”
