Petrol and diesel have become cheaper – but by no means as much as the federal government’s tank discount should actually do. Depending on the calculation, the liter should actually be 10 to 15 cents cheaper.
The so-called tank discount does not have an effect: Despite the energy tax cut, the forecast reductions of 35 cents for Super E10 and 17 cents for diesel do not reach consumers. This is also shown by the weekly comparison of fuel prices by the ADAC. Although the price for a liter of premium petrol fell by 20.3 cents compared to the previous week, with a national average of 1.948 euros, the decline was around 15 cents behind the possibilities of the tax reduction.
The situation is similar with diesel. Compared to the previous week, the liter price fell by 5.2 cents to 1.992 euros on average. According to the ADAC, if the tax cut went straight to the consumer, it would have to be twelve cents less. Only on the first day of the tax cut, June 1, did the automobile club observe that there was a noticeable relief for consumers – and this despite the fact that the mineral oil companies had repeatedly emphasized beforehand that they could not implement the tank discount immediately because the fuel yes I bought more expensive before. Since the reporting date, however, prices have “gone up again every day”, according to the ADAC. Although the price of oil has actually risen again, this can only partially explain the high fuel prices.
An evaluation of the “More Tanken” portal and the “Auto Motor
However, there are now fewer price fluctuations than before: “While price fluctuations of between 7 and 13 cents were usual for Super E5 and E10 in May, it was only between 4 and 6 cents in the first week of June. The prices for diesel fluctuate significantly more, albeit less than in May. Diesel prices currently vary between 9 and 10 cents, in May it was still between 13 and 22 cents,” according to the magazine.
The ADAC demands that the promised relief “fully reaches the consumers”. It should also be taken into account that the price level at the petrol stations was already increasing in the weeks before the tax cut and was recently “massively excessive”. Irrespective of the energy tax cut, there is therefore further potential for lower fuel prices. (awm)
