It took Ted Mosby nine seasons to tell his kids how he met their mother. How long will the new offshoot “How I Met Your Father” take?
Without a doubt, How I Met Your Mother is one of the most popular sitcoms of the past twenty years. From 2005 to 2014, 208 episodes were produced and aired, garnering praise from viewers and awards from critics. Although the ninth and final season in particular had to take harsh criticism in the last few meters and the end of the series is considered extremely controversial, it was clear that a return to this world would be extremely lucrative.
Therefore, a spin-off was decided a few years later: It’s called “How I Met Your Father” and tells a new story according to the well-known scheme. Sophie tells her son the story of how she met his father. Her life with her group of friends is then shown and her adventures in dating life. While the season is already running in the US, German fans will have to wait. But now there is a start date and a German trailer.
On June 8th, How I Met Your Father will make its way to Germany, in the STAR section of Disney. All ten episodes of the first season will be shown directly. The main difference between the series and its role model is the new opportunities in dating: While Barney, Ted, Marshall, Lily and Robin met potential partners mainly in bars and at parties, “How I Met Your Father” deals with modern platforms such as the Tinder app .
In the trailer, Sophie (played by Hilary Duff in young, her future counterpart is Kim Cattrall) mentions that she went on 87 Tinder dates in just one year. From the future she says: “It was hard to enjoy the here and now in 2022. You could always be somewhere else or with someone else.” Joining the cast alongside Duff and Cattrall are Chris Lowell, Francia Raisa and Suraj Sharma, among others. In fact, the series is quite blatantly set in the same universe as How I Met Your Mother – which is made crystal clear by the fact that two of the new characters live in the same New York apartment where much of the original series took place.
The series has already been renewed in the US, and a second season with 20 episodes is in the works. It remains to be seen whether a release by Disney will follow parallel to the US release on Hulu in Germany or whether we will have to wait longer in Germany again.
Eight years after the end of “How I Met Your Mother,” a bored child is once again able to listen to his parents’ love story in sitcom format. Unfortunately, “How I Met Your Father” lacks almost everything that once made the story about Ted, Barney, Marshall, Robin and Lily so successful.
No more comedy: A dream came true for the How I Met Your Mother star with his role on the sports series ‘Winning Time’.
Disney is giving How I Met Your Mother a spin-off, and Marvel’s first Muslim heroine is getting her own series. The overview reveals which streaming highlights the coming week has in store.
