A boy missing in the Dutch border town of Kerkrade is dead. The body found on Saturday was nine-year-old Gino, police said in Kerkrade in the south-east of the country.
Little Gino had been looked for since Wednesday evening. A suspect had already been arrested on Saturday night. The 22-year-old is due to be brought before the magistrate next week.
According to the police, Gino probably went with the man. Further details were not disclosed. The man was known to the judicial authorities. It was unclear whether he also had a criminal record.
According to a spokeswoman, the child’s family is deeply shocked and in a state of shock. “The grief is indescribable and horrific,” the statement said.
The body was found in Geleen, about 25 kilometers from Kerkrade. That’s where the suspect was arrested. The police did not say whether the body was also found in the man’s apartment. According to the police, the site was cordoned off and experts secured traces.
The boy actually lived in Maastricht and had spent a few days with an older sister in Kerkrade. He still wanted to play football on Wednesday evening. When he wasn’t back at around 7:30 p.m., the nurse called the police. Emergency services, also with dogs and helicopters, as well as hundreds of volunteers had been looking for Gino.
