According to an internal email to Tesla employees, Elon Musk plans to lay off ten percent of all employees. A worldwide hiring freeze is also to come.
Elon Musk is apparently planning drastic steps at Tesla. As can be seen from an internal email obtained by the news portal Reuters, Musk apparently wants to lay off around ten percent of all employees at the car manufacturer without hiring new employees in the near future. Musk currently has a “super bad feeling” about the economic situation.
Tesla currently has 100,000 employees worldwide. If the CEO really laid off ten percent of all employees, around 10,000 people would lose their jobs. In addition, there are currently around 5,000 Tesla positions advertised.
A statement from Musk or other Tesla officials is still pending.

Just a few hours after the Reuters report was published, Tesla stock fell 3 percent straight away. Tesla shareholders have often had to accept setbacks in recent weeks. Since Musk announced that he wanted to buy the Twitter news service alone, the stock has fallen by a full 22 percent to date. Added to this is the general, uncertain global economic situation and the corona lockdown in China, where Tesla has a factory in Shanghai.
At the same time, Tesla and the electric vehicle market in general are not showing the typical signs of a crisis. Increased offers from the car manufacturers or additional purchase incentives for the purchase of a Tesla model could not be determined so far.
Speculation has it that Elon Musk’s recently leaked email to Tesla employees was an attempt by the CEO to pressure employees to quit. This is also supported by the fact that Tesla employees shared photos of information boards on the Internet, which said that the Tesla offices are not big enough for all employees if they are supposed to work there full-time. However, there is no explicit evidence for this theory so far.
At Klarna, around 700 employees were recently laid off. The founder of the company has now published a list with the majority of those affected. This should help them get new jobs faster.
