Celebrations began on Thursday to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 70th jubilee (96) in Great Britain. While the people are in an exuberant party mood, there is also a little melancholy. The royal expert Stefan Blatt from BUNTE explains that the celebrations are also “a bit of farewell to the Queen”: “You know she is in poor health and has had a corona disease. For the first time in 70 years, Elizabeth II did not directly inspect the “Trooping the Color” military parade, but was represented by her son Prince Charles. Royal expert Stefan Blatt said in an interview with BUNTE.de about these scenes: “She shone on Thursday, was well styled and seemed overjoyed because she is so celebrated. It sure gives her a push. But the question is whether she will continue to do so after these four big days. It’s also a bit of a farewell to the Queen because she can’t do what she used to do.”
Royal expert Stefan Blatt sees the appearance of the youngest royals on Thursday in the carriage as a complete success: “Louis kept waving, Charlotte told her little brother what he had to do. The children were the heroes alongside the Queen. George, who was the whirlwind before, is now behaving in an exemplary manner, almost regal. And Louis is now the little prat who covered his ears as the Royal Air Force planes flew over Buckingham Palace. Charlotte tries to take on the role of the big sister and make it clear to Louis: Today is an important day! Those are the three roles of William and Kate’s children.”
Queen’s grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle made their first appearance together in London since Megxit on Thursday. Duchess Meghan was seen in photos joking at a window with Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips’ children.
Royal expert Stefan Blatt said: “At first glance, Harry and Meghan are holding back. But Meghan knows, of course, that she’s being photographed with Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall’s children joking and putting her fingers to her lips with them. The photos send a message: she is not excluded, she is there, she can with children – it is hard to imagine that Meghan was not aware of it. Well, she’s not holding back at all. She’s back in the spotlight, instantly landing her back on the front page of the UK media, right below the Queen. So the restraint thing didn’t quite work for Meghan.”
The Queen was particularly looking forward to meeting her great-granddaughter Lilibet, Harry and Meghan’s daughter, who turns one year old on Saturday, he said. Blatt expected Buckingham Palace to release a photo of the two together.
