The prices in the supermarket rise almost every two days. But not only groceries have become more expensive in the past few days, dm, Rossmann and Müller have also turned the price screws on drugstore items. FOCUS Online says where consumers have to dig deeper into their pockets.
Milk will soon be over one euro and butter over 3 euros – prices in Germany are rising. High inflation and high energy costs continue to drive prices up. For mineral water, flour, salt, cooking oil and meat alone, consumers have to pay more money than ever before.
But there was also a strong upward trend for drugstore items. While it is easy to compare prices at the supermarket, this is not the case at drugstores.
Prices vary not only from chain to chain, but also from branch to branch. Drugstores in city centers often charge higher prices for a large part of the range than branches in industrial areas. Consumers pay between 5 cents and 1.20 euros more per product.
The reason is that drugstore Primus dm, for example, calculates the prices in such a way that the entire expenditure of a branch is covered in each individual case. If the shop has to pay a lot more money for rent and ancillary costs, the prices for many products are significantly higher.
High inflation and increased energy prices are causing price explosions in drugstores. In view of the difficult procurement of raw materials, manufacturers have also adjusted prices – upwards.
Depending on the brand and provider, toilet paper costs up to 1.20 euros more,
Kitchen roll went up 70 cents
plaster is 30 cents more expensive,
Fabric softener is up to 40 percent more expensive, so the “Softlan” brand no longer costs 1.29 euros per bottle, but 1.69 euros in many places. Lenor products are now scratching the 2 euro mark from 1.75 euros.
Detergent is also more expensive. “Der General” instead of 1.15 euros, the product is now available in many places for 1.49 euros. The cheapest all-purpose cleaner is available from the own brands “Denk Mit” (dm) or Domol (Rossmann). Prices rose from 89 cents to 99 cents.
The cheapest shower gel at dm is now 20 cents more expensive. A jar of Hipp baby food rose by seven percent to EUR 1.35 in some markets. No-name baby food also increased – by up to 25 percent.
For hair dyes, consumers have to pay 50 cents more at Rossmann.
The cheapest moist toilet paper rose across the board from 59 cents to 65 cents.
Mascara and lipstick: surcharges of up to 20 percent are not uncommon. For example, mascara from “Maybelline New York” no longer costs 9.99 euros, but 11.95 euros.
Prices for animal feed also rose. Depending on the manufacturer and drugstore chain, by up to 15 percent!

The diaper prices are particularly striking. In many cases, parents have to pay more than 10 euros for the cheapest product. Some products climbed by up to 40 percent. On average, the prices for branded products increased by up to 1 euro, depending on the pack size.
Drugstore provider dm advertises that it is always the cheapest provider in Germany. Competitor Rossmann publishes vouchers with “ten percent off everything” at irregular intervals. Rossmann thus clearly undercuts the market leader dm.
Basically, coupons for Rossmann, dm, Budni and Müller-Drogerie play a decisive role. If you redeem these, either certain products or the entire purchase become cheaper. Manufacturers also place vouchers on the shelves, which you can also redeem at the checkout. According to information from FOCUS Online, Nivea, Garnier, Somat, Vernel, Persil, Frosch and other manufacturers can cost a lot of money for this placement. When you buy a whole range of products, the cheapest product is often included for free.
Detergent manufacturers often lure customers with trial campaigns. Simply buy the product, photograph the receipt and fill in the form on the specified page. The product will be refunded to you by bank transfer within two weeks.
You can also collect points. Drugstore giant dm cooperates with Payback. This allows vouchers to be issued after a certain number of points. Budni and Müller-Drogerie have their own points system that works in a similar way to Payback.
The drugstore giants Rossmann, Müller and Budni publish weekly brochures. Market leader dm, in turn, relies on apps and offers in the branches. In both cases, the following applies: make a note of offers, compare basic prices and save accordingly. Own brands are often much cheaper.
Passport photos
Take a passport photo using the Bundesdruckerei template and your own mobile phone. With cell phone and photo to the drugstore. Printing out the file as a passport photo costs just under 30 cents. At the photographer again ten euros upwards.
Food
Rossmann now also sells spreads, flour, milk and muesli in the branches. The drugstore giant repeatedly hides “20 percent off groceries” vouchers in its brochures. What a lot of people don’t know: This voucher can be combined with the “Ten percent off everything” coupon. You end up paying only a quarter of the price of popular groceries.
Toilet paper
Wholesalers specializing in companies sell bulk packs of toilet paper online. The XXL pack with 64 toilet paper rolls is usually significantly cheaper than the classic 12-roll pack in the drugstore.
