Muscovites began to register borreliosis more often after a tick bite. According to RIA Novosti with reference to Rospotrebnadzor statistics, almost 500 cases were found in 2010, and in 2021 — 1050.
Experts note an increase with a better detectability of the disease. At the same time, Lyme disease is detected twice as often in the capital as in the Moscow region. Often ticks bite Muscovites outside the city, and the analysis is passed already in the city.
In addition, borreliosis is spread by various insects. So, in 2021, Moscow residents who visited Kolomenskoye Park, Stroginskaya floodplain, Losin Island and Bitsevsky Forest became infected with it.
It is difficult to detect the disease, because in some cases the patient has no external signs. In this case, the infection can be detected using an antibody test. At the same time, in the case of borreliosis, they are formed not immediately, but 3-4 weeks after the bite, when the infection passes to the internal organs. In addition, 10% of infected people do not produce antibodies.
Borreliosis is treated with antibiotics, but in case of untimely initiation of treatment, it can spread to the joints, peripheral nervous system, liver and heart.
