100 billion euros are available for the Bundeswehr. A large part of it could flow into the Air Force – at least that is what a list provides, which is the basis for the vote in the Bundestag.
Large parts of the multi-billion dollar special assets for the Bundeswehr could be spent on the Air Force. This emerges from a previously confidential list, which, according to information from the German Press Agency, is a basis for the so-called economic plan, which is to be decided in the Bundestag at the end of the week. First, the “ Business Insider ” reported on the listing.
The largest amount of 40.9 billion euros is therefore intended for the “air dimension”, i.e. the air force. In addition to the development and purchase of the Eurofighter, the successor to the Tornado Jet, the procurement of heavy transport helicopters, ground-based air defense and a space-based early warning system are also listed. The armament of the drone “Heron TP”, air position guidance systems and various radars should also be paid for by the billions.
19.3 billion euros are planned for the Navy, including for the corvette 130, the frigate F126 and multi-purpose combat boats.
In the case of the army, projects for 16.6 billion euros are listed, including the retrofitting of the remaining Puma infantry fighting vehicles and the successor to the Marder infantry fighting vehicle. Investments should also be made in sanitary equipment.
Other spending is earmarked for soldiers’ clothing and personal equipment (2 billion), digitization, satellite communications and other means of communication (20.7 billion), and research and development. The individual items are not numbered with exact amounts. Also when which projects are to be tackled is not noted.
The paper does not provide for separate spending on ammunition. According to information from “Business Insider”, this should be paid from the normal household.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) expects the nSpecial Fund to significantly strengthen the Bundeswehr. “Germany will soon have the largest conventional army in Europe within the framework of NATO,” Scholz told the newspapers of the Neue Berliner Redaktionsgemeinschaft as well as the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” on Tuesday. This will “significantly strengthen” the security of Germany and its allies.
