Lorenzo Carter, a former Georgia football star, is returning home to play with the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons announced Tuesday that they have signed an outside linebacker to a 1-year contract in order to improve their pass rush.
Carter was born in Atlanta and was selected by New York Giants in round three of the 2018 NFL Draft. He was a star on the Georgia team that reached national championship before being defeated by Alabama.
Carter, 6’5″ and 255 lbs, played in 49 games with the Giants. He also made 33 starts. He had five sacks last season, which was a record for him. In addition to eight quarterback hits, two forced field fumbles, and one fumble recovery, he also had eight quarterback hits in the 14-game campaign.
Last season, the Falcons had just 18 sacks, which is one of the lowest in the league. Dante Fowler Jr., their sack leader with 4.5 was released. Last year’s team only had two sacks.
Atlanta confirmed that Cordarrelle Patterson, the Falcons’ all-purpose player, was resigned. He agreed to sign a $10.5 million, two-year deal.
