The Washington Commanders reached an agreement Tuesday with Bobby McCain to a new contract that will be worth $11 Million over the next two season.
Drew Rosenhaus, agent, confirmed the contract via email to The Associated Press.
After joining Washington in free agency last year, the 28-year old played in 16 and 17 games for Washington. He was able to finish his career with four interceptions and 63 tackles.
McCain spent six of his first six NFL seasons in Miami. After Washington released veteran safety Landon Collins, McCain is keeping his hand in Miami. also lost its starting right guard Brandon Scherff to Jacksonville through free agency.
The Commanders made their offseason splash already by acquiring quarterback Carson Wentz from the Indianapolis Colts in a deal that reduced their salary cap to just below $5.9million.
This number increased when Collins was released by Washington mid-way through a six-year, $84 million contract. Collins, who was frequently used as a third safety and more of a linebacker while playing with Kamren Curl and McCain, refused to accept a pay cut.
Washington is experiencing overhauls on both sides of the ball, after it lost J.D.’s pass-catching back. Multiple reports claim McKissic has been transferred to Buffalo. McKissic was beloved by coach Ron Rivera, and offensive coordinator Scott Turner. Turner is expected to get a contract extension and will focus his attention on his new project to rejuvenate Wentz’s career.
