Jarvis Landry was a key player in helping the Browns rise from the bottom of the NFL. They will now attempt to remain relevant without Jarvis Landry.

After Landry’s death, Cleveland released the five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Monday. This was a difficult but necessary cost-cutting decision.

Landry, 29, was one of the league’s most reliable pass catchers. He helped the Browns to turn around after they went 1-31 in their previous two seasons.

Landry was a leader and one of the top offensive players for the Browns as they ended a nearly 20 year playoff drought in 2020.

Andrew Berry, Browns general manager, stated in a press release that the trade for Jarvis Landry was a crucial moment in our organization’s history. “Jarvis’s on-field performance and fierce competitiveness speak for themselves, but his leadership style and team-oriented attitude had a lasting impact on our culture that will endure long after his release.

Jarvis’s decisions are never easy, but we wish him well and look forward to his return as a Browns legend.

Landry had 288 receptions and 3,560 yards of receiving for the Browns over four seasons. He also scored 15 touchdowns. Landry also added four rushing touchdowns and threw a touchdown. Landry is the only league player to have at least 70 receptions during each of his seven first seasons.

Although the Browns had hoped to restructure Landry’s contract, they couldn’t reach a compromise. The Browns will be able to save close to $15 million in salary-cap space and cash, which will allow them to focus on other areas.

Landry’s departure comes just two days after Browns and Dallas reached an agreement to trade wide receiver Amari Cooper. Cooper will be Cleveland’s No. Cooper will be Cleveland’s No. 1 wide receiver, an opening that was created last season when Odell Beckham Jr. left.

Soon after acquiring Cooper from the Cowboys in exchange for a fifth-round and sixth-round picks, the Browns granted Landry permission to trade.

As a free agent, he can choose where he wants to go. There will likely be many teams that are interested in signing an experienced veteran with 688 career catch.

According to a source familiar with the negotiations, the Browns also agreed to a one year deal with Taven Bryan (26-year-old tackle), on the first day NFL legal tampering. Because signings cannot be announced until Wednesday, the person spoke on condition of anonymity.

Bryan will be joining the inside rotation along with Jordan Elliott, Tommy Togiai. Cleveland needed more depth at the front after Malik McDowell, who was arrested in the offseason but not offered by the Browns, was taken into custody.

Many of Landry’s Cleveland colleagues posted messages on social networking thanking him.

David Njoku, a tight end, expressed gratitude via Instagram. He wrote: “Thank you for creating the standard and culture that was necessary to be established here at Cleveland. We are grateful for your leadership.

Landry’s worst season was 2021 when the Browns failed to meet their expectations. He had career lows of 53 receptions, yards (570), touchdowns (two), and was slowed by a knee injury. In each of his seven previous seasons, he had at least 72 receptions.

Landry sustained the knee injury against Houston on Sept. 19. Landry, 29, was hurt in the knee. He had only missed one of his seven previous seasons.

Landry was also upset by Beckham’s November release and didn’t speak with the media the rest of the season.
