Lautaro Martinez scored a hat-trick as Inter Milan broke its goal drought by defeating Salernitana 5-0. This victory lifted Inter Milan to the top in Serie A.

Inter will be at the top of Serie A for at least 48 hours, with Edin Dzeko scoring twice. The defending champion was one point ahead of AC Milan and Napoli, who meet on Sunday night.

Inter had only won one match in seven of the competitions it had played since February. This run saw Inter, the defending Serie A champion, lose 2-0 at home to Liverpool in the first leg their Champions League matchup.

It failed to score in 4 matches consecutively and for over 400 minutes.

Martinez hadn’t scored since Dec. 12, when he won the Italian Super Cup over Juventus. But Martinez broke his duck in 22 minutes, running onto a Nicolo barella through ball and firing into the bottom left corner.

Martinez, who had earlier crossed the crossbar, doubled his score with a very similar goal after another Barella pass just before halftime.

After a Dzeko assist, the Argentina forward completed his hat-trick in the 56th by scoring a shot to the roof of the net.

Robin Gosens made his Inter debut from Atalanta. He was on the bench for his second Inter appearance and set up Inter’s fourth goal for Dzeko in just two minutes.
