We asked Americans to choose between Abraham Lincoln or George Washington as President’s Day approaches. It turns out that Americans prefer Abraham Lincoln to meet them by almost two to 1. Half of Americans choose Lincoln while only 25% pick Washington. Another 23% of Americans say they would prefer not to meet either one.
This preference is universal across all demographic groups. Young and old, as well as Americans from all parts of the country, say that they would prefer to meet Abraham Lincoln over George Washington. Lincoln is the most popular choice, regardless of political affiliation. However, Republicans lean more towards Washington than Democrats or independents, despite Lincoln being the first Republican president.
Both Black and White Americans choose Lincoln as their first choice, while Black Americans prefer Lincoln to Washington by more that three to 1. However, four out of ten Black Americans say that they would prefer not to meet either one.
