Luke Loewe had 24 points, Jamison battle had 21 points, and 14 rebounds. On Saturday, Minnesota rolled to a 77-60 win over Northwestern.
Loewe shot 9 of 13 from the floor, including 6 3-pointers, and had seven assists. Battle tallied a fourth double-double with 8-of-13 shooting and a career-high of five assists.
E.J. Stephens scored 15 points, while Sean Sutherlin added 11. They combined for nine assists in Minnesota (13-12, Big Ten), which won two of its four last games after ending a five-game losing streak.
For Northwestern (12-13, 5-11), Pete Nance scored 18 and Boo Buie 16, respectively.
Minnesota had a 11-0 run to gain a 19-8 lead and was leading 43-27 at the half. Stephens and Loewe each made three of the eight Golden Gophers 3-pointers during the half. Stephens scored nine points, while Loewe and Battle had eleven each.
Northwestern opened the second period with a 13-4 run that pulled them to 47-40, but they couldn’t get any closer. The Gophers ended the game with 22 assists and shot 56% (29 out 52) from the floor.
Minnesota was without Payton willis because of COVID-19 safety and health protocols. Eric Curry, a sixth-year senior, played despite having flu-like symptoms that were not related to COVID-19. Curry was able to finish with three points in just 25 minutes.
Minnesota faces No. On Wednesday, 15 Wisconsin will be at home. Northwestern will be looking to end a three-game skid on Tuesday when it hosts Nebraska.
