Super Bowl Champs cheered by Rams fans at LA victory parade
LOS ANGELES (AP), — Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald celebrated Wednesday’s Super Bowl victory with a victory parade. They told thousands of fans that they would “run it back” next year and they would be running it again.
As team members paraded along the mile-long parade route, fans lined the streets and chugged champagne as they passed by the Lombardi Trophy.
They were greeted by a sea of yellow, blue and a crowd of Rams fans decked in Rams gear.
Kupp responded to the chants of “Run It Back!” and said that he believes the team can do it again next season.
“I believe it. He said, “This is only the beginning.”
His team smoked cigars and sprayed magnum bottles of bubbly in a party atmosphere atop a stage covered with confetti. Donald, a crowd favorite, was shirtless and slugged champagne. Look at this trophy! Take a look at it! This is what it all boils down to!
Stafford said, “It’s an incredible journey we’ve been through.” Many people came from all parts of the region to celebrate the occasion. Some arrived even earlier than others to soak in the atmosphere. On LA’s freeways, cars flew Rams flags. Downtown residences and businesses displayed banners to congratulate the team.
Lawrence Morse said, “It’s almost like a dream.” He drove from suburban Irwindale to meet Jacob, his 12-year-old son.
Jacob said, “We watched nearly every game throughout the entire season.” “We knew they’d win the Super Bowl!”
Sunday was a day of celebration when the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20. Stafford’s final drive was 79 yards. Kupp then completed the drive with a 1-yard touchdown to Kupp.
Charles Goolsby (16) came from Fontana in San Bernardino County with his brothers and father. He claimed that his grandfather was a lifetime Rams fan and his passion for the team was infectious.
Goolsby stated, “I was holding my breath during the fourth quarter but I just knew Kupp could win it.”
He added, “We are here to support our grandpa.”
The LA Rams’ party came the same day that Los Angeles County lifted its outdoor mask mandate as coronavirus case rates continue to fall and hospitalizations continue to rise. Los Angeles County had its outdoor mask ban lifted on the same day as the Rams’ party. The pandemic is easing, coronavirus cases continue to drop, and the sun shines. Gregg Donovan, a fan, exclaimed “What a day!” as he donned a top-hat with the words “Rams House.”
For decades, the Coliseum was home to the Rams. They now play at SoFi Stadium, in neighboring Inglewood. This is where the Super Bowl was held. James T. Butts Jr, Inglewood Mayor, was present Wednesday to hand Stan Kroenke the key to his town.
Rudy Gallego (70) said that he saw his first Rams match when his father took him to the Coliseum back in the 1960s.
He said that “they tore my heart out” after the team moved to St. Louis. However, his cousin convinced him to rekindle his love for the Rams when they returned to LA. Gallego described it as regaining a friendship with a long-lost friend.
He said, “I’m still processing the win.” It’s something I am really enjoying. It’s so delicious.
