Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal underwent surgery on Thursday to fix a torn ligament in the left wrist.
Beal chose to have the season-ending operation earlier in the week. Beal, a three-time All Star, averaged 23.2 points per game and a career high 6.6 assists in 40 games prior to sustaining the tear of the scapholunate ligament at Memphis on Jan. 29.
Beal’s surgery took place at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by Dr. Michele Carson.
After John Wall’s departure, the Wizards had hoped that Beal would be rebuilt around them, but they have not made it past the first round since 2017. Next season, Beal will make $36.4 million. After that, he will be a free agent.
He is a fundamental piece of our team. “He’s been here for 10 years, he has been the longest-tenured member of this group,” Wes Unseld Jr. stated. As a coach, I want Brad Beal to be in the foxhole.
Beal has been the subject of trade rumors for a long time, but the Wizards were busy on Thursday with other deals.
According to a source, the team traded Spencer Dinwiddie to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Davis Bertans and Kristaps Porzingis. The deal was not announced. Washington also sent Montrezl Harrell, Vernon Carey Jr., and Ish Smith to Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis. It also sent Aaron Holiday to Phoenix Suns as cash.
