Exxon Mobil says that the cause of the incident is still unknown. Exxon Mobil is cooperating with authorities.

Texas authorities said that they are investigating an “important industrial accident” at Exxon Mobil’s plant on Thursday morning.
“Some injuries were reported. “Please avoid the area,” Harris County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that initial reports suggested an explosion inside the plant. He said that four people sustained injuries, three of them being evacuated by Lifeflight, and one was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
Social media videos showed dense smoke rising from this facility.
“My mom lives right next to the plant, and it starts at 1 a.m. Kendall Merritt, a neighbor, said that she heard a loud “boom” and felt the house shake. “It was like someone had just slammed a front door in my ear.”
According to Exxon Mobil’s website, the Baytown complex is located on 3,400 acres 25 miles east from Houston. The local refinery can produce approximately 584,000 barrels per day.
Gonzalez stated that there was no order for residents nearby to evacuate or shelter in place.
