Dr Anthony Fauci stated that “There is no doubt about it, [Omicron] can spread extraordinarily well,” he said to NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday.

After researchers found that the extra shot could offer around 85% protection against severe illnesses, governments are increasing their Covid booster vaccination programs.
Dr Fauci stated that Omicron’s rapid spread in the US could have serious consequences for health services throughout the country.
He warned that hospitals will be stressed if they look the same as they do now.
Dr Fauci advised people to wear face masks and avoid social distancing. Fauci also encouraged more Americans to receive their booster shots and vaccines.
He said that the difference between someone with an infection and someone who was vaccinated has been significant in terms of severity.
Dr Fauci stated that unvaccinated individuals were at greater risk of serious infections and hospitalisation during a White House press conference on Friday.
He said that “we are looking over our shoulders at an Omicron surge” and added: “The fully vaccinated do much better… The optimum protection is fully-vaccinated plus a booster.”
Dr Fauci made the warnings after two US Senators Elizabeth Warren (72) and Cory Booker (52), said they had tested positive.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 73% of Americans have received at least one Covid vaccine. Nearly 30% of the population has had a booster shot so far.
According to the CDC, the Omicron variant is responsible for approximately 3% of all current cases. Most of these cases have been reported in New York.
