Billboard confirms that Carey was taken into custody after an altercation at Kansas City’s airport.

Joe McBride (the senior communications manager at Kansas City Aviation Department) tells Billboard that law enforcement received a report about a disturbance between two males at the airport terminal at 7 p.m. on Sunday (12/12). Carey was taken to a Kansas City Police Department station and charged with misdemeanor assault. The arrest was reported by TMZ first.
McBride stated that Carey, aged 60, is now out of custody. McBride stated that the police report was forwarded to the prosecution’s office for review.
Billboard has reached out to Tool, Kansas City Police Department and requested their comments.

Carey was arrested one month before Tool begins their 20022 tour. It starts Jan. 10, at the Matthew Knight Arena, Eugene, Ore. This is where Carey was arrested for allegedly violating Tool’s 2020 tour dates. The band stopped their 2020 tour to support their album Fear Inoculum, which was released after the pandemic that decimated the live music industry.
