The 2021 American Music Awards were announced this morning on ABC’s Good Morning America. The remaining nominees were also announced via the AMAs twitter account.
Fans can now vote in all AMA categories via TikTok. The live broadcast will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, on Sunday, November 21st, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. It will also stream on Hulu the following day.
These are the highlights of today’s announcements
* Pop star Olivia Rodrigo was named the top nominee. She made her AMAs debut with seven nominations including Artist of The Year and New Artist Of The Year.
Six nominations were received for The Weeknd, a five-time AMA winner who has been nominated six times. Rodrigo will be up against The Weeknd in the Artist of the year category.
Bad Bunny and Doja Cat are close behind, with five each. The Reggaeton star dominates the Latin categories. He scored a double nomination for Favorite Latin Album and Doja Cat, 2020’s New Artist of Year, is also recognized in the Favorite Female R&B artist and Favorite R&B Album categories. In his AMA debut, Giveon was nominated for multiple awards, including Favorite Male R&B artist, New Artist of the year, and Collaboration of the year.
* Nominees for Artist of the Year include Ariana Grande and BTS, Drake as well as Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. Swift holds the record for the most wins in this category, with six wins. She also holds the record for the most AMA wins ever, which is 32.
* This year, there are two new categories: Favorite Trending song, with nominations from TikTok for the year’s most popular songs, Favorite Gospel artist, and Favorite Latin duo or group. These categories add to last year’s Latin expansion, bringing the total number of Latin categories to five.
The AMAs are the most outstanding achievements in music, as determined by fans. TikTok allows worldwide voting for all awards. Voting is open to all fans by searching for “AMAs” in TikTok.
The Billboard charts reflect key fan interactions. These include streaming, song sales, and radio airplay. These measurements were taken by Billboard and MRC Data and span the period from September 25, 2020 to September 23, 2021. Voting for the American Music Awards winners is entirely done by fans.
